About The Book:

Authored by Danny Range

Haven’t heard of the man known as “Warren’s Finest,” AKA Danny Range? Born in a broken and poverty ridden city, he had infinite potential as a businessman and unlimited people skills, but an unfathomably bad alcohol and drug problem almost ended his life at age nineteen. He left the city in an attempt to find himself and start a new life, then gave in to the temptation to return to the poisonous lifestyle he was remembered for. He spent the majority of his young life giving in to every guilty pleasure imaginable, until the day he lifted his bloody face off of a cold hard floor, got clean, and went on to be his family’s first college graduate. He then dedicated his life to straying people away from diving into the destructive lifestyle that he once proclaimed himself “The King” of. He encouraged them to chase their own dreams, as sharing his experiences to change lives became his.

This is his story…

5.0 out of 5 stars Many of these kids with no hope of good job prospect turn to drugs and their life turns …, December 21, 2016
This review is from: Warren’s Finest (Paperback)

This book demonstrated the raw emotions of a young adult growing up in an area decimated by the decline of manufacturing in our country. Many of these kids with no hope of good job prospect turn to drugs and their life turns into nothing but a struggle. Drugs are readily available in these areas, unfortunately. The author does a great job of writing about becoming addicted to drugs than going through the immense uphill climb of getting off addiction. Definitely, a great book to give to someone struggling with addiction or even a junior high school/high school student who you don’t want to see go through the struggle. Highly Suggest This Book!

The book is a story I have created based on the events of my own life and I am using this book to sacrifice my own reputation in order to show others that you can overcome anything if you put your mind to it. I went from white trash, drug using, porch monkey to the first person in his entire family to attend and graduate college, as I now live as a successful businessman in the Columbus, Ohio area and am currently clean of all drugs.”

“People that know me from who I was when I lived in Warren can and will tell you plenty about me that is mostly negative and likely deserving, but I’m here to hope you follow the changed and positive man I have become. I’m now officially taking this project seriously and chasing my dreams of being able to provide a life for my mother, brother, and future family that I never got to have. Bigs things to come from me in the next year and a half.”

Your follows are appreciated and any negativity from here on out will be blocked.
His page is strictly for positive people that understand being on a mission like I am. I believe in myself, even if most of my friends don’t and the family that know about this doesn’t. That’s all that matters. As my manuscript, which I encourage you all to ask to read, says in its final sentence, “Enjoy the ride..” #ChaseYourDreams  “His Instagram Message” ….

So Happy to be Writing for ‘Keys To Recovery News’! And Some Book Reviews, Poetry, and Author News.

Hello, Recovery Friends and Visitors!

“I wanted to share some exciting news with everyone. I have been invited to be a regular article writer for a great Free Recovery publication called,  Keys To Recovery Newspaper! Why?”

They have a new featured column that just started this August 2016 titled; Quit to Win about Gambling Addiction. So needless to say I jumped on this opportunity to share my experiences, strength, and HOPE with others on this new platform.  It is refreshing to see that more sites are becoming increasingly aware of and about problem gambling and addicted gambling as another REAL addiction. My feelings are we just beginning to see the tide turn when it comes to this addiction.

I hear more and more of people sharing that even though their addiction maybe drugs or alcohol, they also started having gambling problems as way to try and make quick money by gambling to then go buy drugs or alcohol …..  My first article is now printed in the newspaper and hope you will go give it a read. YES, really it is free! So when you visit the site you can either download or open the most current issue FREE! They have so many awesome articles and information in each issue.

AND? They also read and review addiction and recovery books. Now many of you know my “day job” is Book Promotions. So I was thrilled to see that THREE of my authors I promote for books were chosen to be read and here are the Book Reviews! I want to Thank, Beth Dewey for choosing some of my fine authors and friends in recovery. Here we go!

Review:

This is a book that clearly and concisely helps anyone, who is having difficulty following through consistently with their advancement in recovery from addiction. The information within this book enlightens each of us to see the manipulative power that our brains have to further the destructive personal conduct, which keeps us enslaved to our compulsive behaviors. Our minds try to refute the innate uniqueness which is in essence, us.

This inspiring book teaches the readers that they can ultimately put their minds under subjection by forming pristine neural pathways, from implementing a set of skills that help ensure that it will be accomplished. These skills are;  Awareness, Accountability, and Acceptance, these three in combination when truly utilized, are a force to be reckoned with. The authors explains how we can acquire the capability to not take things personally, we need to learn how to see life with a mental position “it is what it is”, and to be totally alright with that.

This is a must read for those who what to regain control over the negative impulses that governs our behaviors and attitudes.

Monkey Traps, Why Everyone Tries To Control Everything and How We Can Stop:

Written by Steve Hauptman. Published by Lioncrest Publishing.

.

Product Details

Review:

I loved this book before I even opened it. The Title said it all, and it tells me that Steve has not just written about the “problem” he is offering a “solution”.
Written on that back cover ~ “This book is about a problem disguised as a solution, an idea that shapes and drives us all: Control.” Again the problem is clearly identified.

The books begin’s explaining “The Monkey Trap,” then each chapter clearly explains the different types of control we think we have. Then he gives us solutions, plans, and steps to overcome the traps we live in. I like that towards the end of the book the chapters are titled, Acceptance, Trust, Faith, Practicing Surrender and so. Words I relate to. Each chapter is simple and easy to read and understand, and yet so deep it could change your life from the first moment you open the book and open your heart to a solution.

Easy to follow and easy to practice instructions. I give a heartfelt “5 Stars” for this book and I will be passing it on. Steve Hauptman is a Gestalt-trained, Buddhist-flavored therapist who has practiced on Long Island for twenty years. A leader of Interactive Therapy groups, he is also a cartoonist and creator of the blogs Monkeytraps: A blog about control, Monkey House (a forum for discussing control issues).

Review:

Rev., Dr. Kevin sent me a few different books for review, but what’s going on in my world right now I thought this would be the PERFECT book for me and after I finished it my intuition was right. The way Rev., Dr. Kevin approaches the topic of spirituality is quite simple and easy to read. As addicts we tend to complicate matters even with long term sobriety you still struggle with faith, but after reading this book and doing the work I walk away with a deeper connection to my higher power.

I love how he states “People who are spiritually fit tend to have better coping skills, stronger self-esteem, and more solid relationships.” That has totally been my experience in my journey of recovery. I totally recommend this workbook for anyone who wants to strengthen their relationship with their higher power and have a better understanding of the application of spirituality in their lives. A MUST READ!  Thank you, Rev., Dr. Kevin for keeping it simple. Available at Amazon Online  . . . .

An Amazon Review Book One: 5.0 out of 5 stars Be Ready To Be Inspired!, August 14, 2016

Author, Poet, Reverend, and Recovery Coach Kevin T Coughlin has put together a unique set of addiction/recovery poems for those who live life in recovery. Through his words, shared recovery experiences, and experiences shared with coaching many in recovery, he has poems in this book of genuine inspiration and in-depth creative emotions of what it is like to be an addict, and what it is like to have freedom in recovery.

Each one of his poems describes the pain and suffering one goes through and feels, the raw pain felt in his written words. But you find much HOPE within these his words to let recovery readers know you CAN make it out the other side. Kevin shares that no matter how far down we are, we can grab hold of that last shimmer, that last sliver of LIGHT, and pull ourselves out of the darkness into a new way of living in recovery.

That is just some of what you will read in these beautiful poems. What were my favorites? Many to choose from, but, “The Lost Children Die Alone” and “The Beach” are a few. All the poems in this collection are exceptional and shows many of us, including Author, Kevin Coughlin are creative, talented, and Can Recover! A Highly Suggested Read!

Sometimes Readers “Just Get It!” Book Reviews For “Addicted To Dimes.”

Hello and Welcome Recovery Friends, Readers, and New Friends!

.

addicted.jpg
.

It has been a while since my last personal share and thoughts with all my friends. I thought it would be a great time to some news and updates happening since my last post. I remember when about three or so years into my recovery from gambling addiction and alcohol abuse. I would think about my future after all I had been through with gambling and it’s ravishing over my life. I still remember clearly that day I began my writing journey, even though I was already a “Daily Journaler” I had read a newspaper article about the woman who had committed suicide at an Indian Casino hotel room about 40 miles North from my home.

Tears came down my cheeks not noticing as I read about this woman’s plight. I knew exactly how she felt when she had pulled that trigger. Yes, she killed herself because she could not stop gambling. And, yes, she was addicted and had a bad addiction relapse. It said in the paper article that she left a blood-spattered note behind the police found next to her lifeless body to her family. Still makes me sick to my stomach to this day that this woman felt “Suicide” was her only option for her to stop her gambling addiction.

This was the ignition to my needing to write down on paper, in black and white and between lines, all that gambling addiction had taken from me, and all the bad choices and consequences I bared because of those stupid choices I made. Finally taking accountability and ownership for all the “bad” I had done to others as well. That WAS MY beginning to really process and heal as I wrote for the next year into 6 spiral note books that became a book. All the rest was to it being picked up by a publisher was all the work of my Higher Power/God working in my LIFE ….

After my book released in paperback in late 2012? It has been no turning back! My Memoir and Life Story was out for all to read and know about. I tried to really give an in-depth view of this disease, and how it slowly progress’ in one’s life. I also wanted to give readers insights as to how, when we turn to any addiction to try to process our hurt and pain from many types of underlying unresolved or non-processed issues like death and grief, past childhood pain, abuse or sexual abuse. It can be from hundreds of other issues, but many of us do find out why we used addiction to try to cope, hide the pain, or escape and numb ourselves with gambling addiction, or with any addiction.t others may think of me, so I sat on the decision to publish for almost another year.

These were some of my goals for releasing my first book; “Addicted To Dimes, Confessions of a Liar and a Cheat.”  I wanted others to have HOPE, those still suffering and stuck in the never-ending “Cycle” of Gambling Addiction. Today? I feel I have accomplished this goal as many of my readers and book reviewers have been kind enough to share their thoughts by leaving fantastic book reviews. And?

I appreciate each and ever one of them GOOD or BAD. LOL. Blessed, all have been 4 and 5 stars on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. AND? Those readers understood my goals and mission of my book and my Recovery Blog  where I have continued sharing and journaling my recovery journey.

Addicted To Dimes ~ Book Reviews:

Agathe Kampen rated it ***** 5-Stars

“What a journey Catherine has been on. A wonderful read to learn how addicted gambling can turn very dangerous. Her writing style is unique in a way that she takes her readers through her life as if you both are just sitting in a coffee shop and her telling you here story, and about her life. What pain and agony she has been through with addicted gambling, childhood trauma, that led to some mental health challenges for Catherine, but more amazing is how she has helped many with this cunning addiction, support others with these same issues that have touched her life.

I truly hope she has a follow-up book to her Memoir, as she sets the example on how to do recovery right! And has a lot of good information for all that she shares through her book, and on her recovery blog as well! Besides being in recovery, Catherine is also fantastic writer and blogger. She dabbles in Book & Media marketing, and has done a great job for ME with my own book! It’s why I hired her. And it’s why I gave her book a 5 Stars!”

“Once I started reading it I had to read it through to the end and now as I see dawn come into the sky I understand much more about the nature of addiction to gambling. It has changed me and made me feel more compassion for a friend who has a similar addiction.

This is a must read for anyone with a gambling addiction or has a family member or friend with this terrible medical condition, for indeed as the author makes clear it is a medical condition and not a failing. I ached for her brother Rob denied the truth of his parentage so many years. I bless that she found her husband Tom who stood by her through all the troubles she brought down on their marriage. Her dysfunctional family is clearly outlined in her writing. It’s a story that had to be told. I congratulate her on writing about the helplessness, compulsion, and despair of gambling.”  . . . .

“The Cruelest lies are often told in Silence”  ~Robert Louis Stevenson

Arizona Author, Catherine Townsend-Lyon makes her wiring debut in a book – ADDICTED TO DIMES – that is as much a memoir of her troubled life as it is coaching guide for people afflicted with addictions. While Catherine focuses on addiction “how-to gambling (her own malady form from which she has recovered), her writing is such that is helpful to all manner of addictions – the addict’s mindset, the highs and lows of addiction, and finding the path to recovery.

As is the case with author’s who elect to share personal experiences with the topic engaged, Catherine shares the childhood and early adulthood etiologies for developing her gambling addition, and she is unafraid to share the extended lows of coming to grips with addiction. Now year 9 1/2 in  recovery, she is active in the passion of working with other addicts in the addiction & recovery communities. Her blogging and personal appearances are a testimony to her desire to aid other addicts – advice from one who has “been there, done that” – such as her title as an Expert Gambling Recovery Blogger all about Gambling Addiction on “Addictionland” of Author & Founder, Cate Stevens, and now a “In Recovery Magazine” columnist as well, she does share hope to others.

In the Preface of her book, she states, ‘I truly hope by sharing my own story and experiences with my battle over this illness will inspire others to seek help, or catch you before you fall. Not one more person has to ever choose death as the final option to stop gambling. Don’t let shame destroy you and your family. THERE IS HELP AND SUPPORT.’

And from this supportive stance, Catherine details her childhood, the abuses she tolerated, the attempts at marriage – every secret is revealed in detail to show many underlying causes for which one may take a darker path than others  … Well done.

This review is from: Addicted to Dimes (Confessions of a Liar and a Cheat) (Paperback)

It was amazing how similar our stories are. The only difference is that I am a recovering drug addict. But we went through the same trial and tribulations. Child-hood traumas, death, feelings of hopelessness, etc. If you are suffering from ANY type of addiction, You should read this. I believe it could help you understand what you are going through and that there is help out there.
And most importantly, you are not alone. With the help of others suffering the same way you are, it’s much easier than doing it alone. And even if you don’t have any type of addictive behavior. This book might help you understand what a suffering addict goes through. It might make people use less Judgement and have a little more compassion for people like us. Not that we want our behavior condoned. We just want to be a little more understood. Catherine did a GREAT job explaining all they cycles and everything that a person goes through with addiction. Thank you for writing this book!…

5.0 out of 5 stars A true insight to what a person goes through with gambling addiction, September 13, 2013
This review is from: Addicted to Dimes (Confessions of a Liar and a Cheat) (Paperback)

This book was an insight for me, I never understood what the journey is like for a person dealing with an addiction. This took me awhile to complete reading because there was so much that needed to be digested to really grasp what the author was trying to tell in her recounting of her life. It was a very rough emotional journey that you feel like you are experiencing along with Cathy. I felt so many different emotions when reading this book, that at times I had to set it down because it was so intense and overwhelming. I would recommend this novel for anyone looking to understand the up and downs a person faces when dealing with a gambling addiction. I loved reading about Cathy and her life, and I also appreciated how the book was left in her words and how honest she was in telling her struggles.

I do want to note that, I met Cathy in real life, she was my neighbor for a time. She is a wonderful woman. After we talked for a while, she asked me to read her novel and write a review, so I did. But it took me forever to do so. I have to say I am sorry to her for taking so long. Cathy, it was a touching and insightful journey your story has taken me on these last few months. Thank you for sharing it with me. It gave me hope in knowing that anything can become overcome with love and trust. God bless you. Keep writing and telling your story so others will know that they are not alone and that there is hope after addiction.

**I’m really touched by these kind reviews, and it tells me that there really ARE others who understand and appreciate a REAL TRUE life story. The only condition I gave my Publisher when he wanted to take ME and My Book on to publish was, Nothing be changed of my STORY. I wanted to keep it raw and unedited. WHY? Because I want others to truly FEEL the EXPERIENCES I went through. Gambling Addiction can destroy
lives, as it almost TOOK MY LIFE along with Mental & Emotional disorders.

SO, all I ask is that you read my book, and if you like it or not, share a REVIEW. I’m also on GoodReads as well, so Reviews there would be helpful to spread the word about Addicted Compulsive Gambling. Reviews for me are not about *Rankings* or *Standings*……NO, it’s about people being educated and informed about the Dark-side of a form of “FUN & ENTERTAINMENT” that can easily become an addiction.
Because most of us addicted gamblers suffer in silence. I have NO ill will or feelings
toward others who can Gamble for FUN…..I JUST KNOW I CAN NOT……**
