The Las Vegas Mass Shooting Saga Continues Even Though The Murderer Has Been Dead For Several Years. Ex-Mistress?

The Las Vegas Mass Shooting Saga Continues Even Though The Murderer Has Been Dead For Several Years. Ex-Mistress?

…..
“IT HAPPENED On October 1, 2017, he fired shots from his Las Vegas hotel room at 22,000 concert-goers attending the Route 91 Harvest festival.”

Just when we think we have heard it all about the murderer Stephen Paddock and the mass shooting in Las Vegas, NV., in 2017?  The story takes a weird twist all the way from New Zealand, Australia courtesy of Assoc. Press and The New Zealand Herald reports.

“Las Vegas mass murderer and gunman Stephen Paddock’s mistress living in New Zealand and carried a replica pistol”

The former mistress of Las Vegas mass shooter Stephen Paddock is living in New Zealand and has been carrying a replica pistol for safety.

The Herald on Sunday can reveal police visited her home in Auckland and seized the gun after she carried it in her handbag into a suburban shopping mall while with her son this week.

The woman, who we have chosen not to identify, told the Herald on Sunday she and her son left the United States because of the guilt she felt when Paddock went on a murderous rampage killing 58 people and injuring hundreds at a music festival in Las Vegas in 2017.

“I have been living here a while but I didn’t want anyone to know. The investigation is still ongoing in the States. I still live with a lot of guilt knowing I could have potentially prevented it so as a result, I have a lot of people who want me dead for failing to do something.”

There is no suggestion the woman had any idea of what Paddock had planned or that she was involved.

She said she had been living in Australia before moving to New Zealand recently.  “I am lucky I have got both Australian and American citizenship.”

Paddock, a wealthy businessman, used hotel trolleys to transport a stash of rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition to his room at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino and was later found dead in the room.

On October 1, 2017, he fired shots from his hotel room at 22,000 concert-goers attending the Route 91 Harvest festival.

……
This week the Daily Mail published a number of texts between the woman and Paddock in the days leading up to the massacre, including Paddock writing: “I need to talk to you. Please. Call me when you get this, it’ll be good to hear your voice. I need someone to talk to.”

Another text revealed Paddock had been “struggling a bit”. The most distressing one read: “There are so many people who don’t deserve to be alive.”

Concerned for Paddock’s wellbeing, the woman, aged in her 20s, offered to travel to Las Vegas to meet him, but he told her not to bother, she told the Herald on Sunday.  After the shooting, officers found Paddock dead with 17 guns on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

When approached outside an Auckland shopping mall by the Herald on Sunday on Thursday, the woman said she wasn’t concerned about her safety, but added she was “prepared” at all times.  When asked why she wasn’t concerned, the mother opened her bag and pulled out a gun – later found by police to be a replica.

“I have a permit to conceal and carry it with me,” she said.  The Herald on Sunday reported the incident to the police.

They visited her at her home on Friday night and told the Herald on Sunday: “Inquiries were made this evening and a replica pistol was located and it has been surrendered to police for destruction. A female has been warned for unlawfully carrying an imitation firearm.”

They had said earlier: “Anyone who has a firearms license that is endorsed to allow ownership of a pistol must comply with strict regulations around the carriage of the pistol.”

Paddock, 64, met her in a Miami bar in 2013, after she had dumped her boyfriend, she said.  “I started hanging out with Stephen as we both had a passion for guns,” she said.

The couple stayed in contact for over four years and would meet up for sexual trysts. Paddock was also in a relationship with his long-time girlfriend Marilou Danley.

“We only hooked up enough times I could count on one hand,” she said.  “I turned into his therapist more than anything.  “Being called his ‘mistress’ is a stretch. I think he saw hookers the way women see hairdressers, they kind of double up as therapists.  I am not critical of hookers but there were always fights about that and texts of him being paranoid about what I was doing.”

……
Paddock reportedly owned multiple properties in California, Nevada, Florida, and Texas. His father was a convicted bank robber who was constantly running away from the law.

He had no children and lived with his longtime Filipino partner Danley, who the woman said he cheated on with her.  The woman believes Paddock wasn’t as “rich” as he made out which may have led to his declining mental health.

“I think his finances contributed to his demise. He was frugal with money unless he was spending in Vegas and on hookers. That was his way to kind of indulge.

…….
“His finances weren’t great at the end.
I come from a relatively well-off family so there was never any money exchanged. He never paid for anything. I was always the one who paid for lunch and dinner.”  She wants to apologize to Danley for her affair with Paddock.

“He had two different lives but he seemed to struggle to talk to his partner about things,” she said.  She’s focusing on being a good mother to her son.

“He is an amazing little boy, a real trooper. He was born at 28 weeks and fit into the palm of my hands … I love him so much I wouldn’t change a thing. He is caring and has a big heart.”

Hello Recovery Friends and Welcome Everyone,

Now I hope all of my recovery pals are not growing tired of me sharing all about my awesome friend Arnie Wexler and sharing his new book titled; “All Bets Are Off,” as it really is a fantastic look inside gambling addiction and how it can devastate a life. Arnie did a great job with writing this book and all the Amazon 100% 5 star reviews proves it! He shared with me another excellent book review by a prestigious CAMH ~ Journal of Gambling Issues. So I wanted to share it for those who have not had a chance to read his book. This book review will help you make that choice.. .. ..

Book Review of “All Bets Are Off” by: Author, Arnie Wexler:
By: Peter Ferentzy (2015) All bets are off: Losers, liars, and recovery from gambling addiction. Journal of Gambling Issues.

Rarely does a reader come across a text where integrity oozes out from between each line. That is always a treat, and Arnie and Sheila Wexler’s book is one of those. Perhaps this should not be surprising—after all, Arnie brings to the table a half-century of personal and professional experience in recovery from problem gambling (PG). In fact, as a PG scholar who has communicated with Arnie in-depth over the years, I can make a claim that few in the field would disagree with: No human being has devoted more time and sweat to this cause than Arnie Wexler. The one exception, perhaps, would be his co-author and wife, Sheila Wexler. I would also be remiss if I didn’t mention Steve Jacobson, contributor, who assembled their narratives into a cohesive, beautifully written story—one in which many problem gamblers and their loved ones will recognize their own lives and struggles.

The authors use the designation “compulsive gambling” when discussing PG, which is favored by Gamblers Anonymous (GA), though generally in disuse by the scientific community. So what? “Compulsive” is just as good a word as “pathological,” “disordered,” or “problem.” Arnie is old school, and even though I disagree with him on many points (sometimes I think that Arnie and I disagree about everything), there is nothing wrong with old-school lingo, or even an old-school approach, so long as other options are present.

Arnie is an old-school gambler and an old-school tough guy, and it shows, even as he challenges ideas such as that drugs and alcohol are more dangerous than gambling. Of course, Arnie was in the game when most people thought just that, despite having a decent grasp on alcoholism and drug addiction. On page 1, Arnie lets you in on how he sees it (and how he sees himself): “I always knew I was going to be a compulsive something or other.” Yes, had the dice rolled just a little differently, maybe Arnie would be recovering from crack and booze (like this reviewer), and maybe this reviewer would have a history of compulsive gambling. No one can say for sure, and Arnie understands that truth with as much clarity as any researcher with whom I have worked.

The book is laden with sophisticated takes on complex issues (e.g., Arnie comes out as an agnostic with respect to PG etiology) and some really glaring generalizations (e.g., the “mindset” of the compulsive gambler is discussed with sweeping statements). So, on the one hand, Arnie understands how difficult it is to pin down causation and that, even if it were possible, the account would vary from one person to the next. On the other hand, he often claims that all compulsive gamblers think this way and that way. Even if many of these generalizations were true in the vast majority of cases, they could never apply to each one.

Let us recall, though, that the book is more experiential than scientific. Arnie often makes personal statements, and with full regard for how they are personal. So even though gamblers—according to 12-Step lore—are said to dream about yachts and such, Arnie apparently was an exception to that rule: “Most people who buy those $100 million lottery tickets enjoy a few moments daydreaming about what they’d do if they won: pay off the mortgage, buy a new house, a new car…. Not me. Nope. I just thought of paying off gambling debts and having some money left over to bet even more. That was my fantasy” (p. 8).

As gamblers go, Arnie was as pure as they come: “when I had a good day betting, I was so high I didn’t need sex” (p. 31). Sheila concurs: “Arnie wasn’t interested in making love” (p. 37). Later, she elaborates on this singular drive: “Over the years, I learned to understand the grip his addiction had on him. Even when he knew he was going to lose, he had to make a bet” (p. 40). After Arnie stopped gambling, so ended the high, and the book covers the struggles he encountered during those early years of his recovery, especially the depression. For his wife, the greatest struggle appears to have found the strength to forgive her husband. The two perspectives play off each other throughout the entire book, generating a dynamic that made me feel like I was a part of their reality.

Even after decades in recovery, Arnie explains how he is still an addict and therefore must always be vigilant. To illustrate, he tells the story about a time he was playing golf, and was surprised by a sign that greeted him at the second hole, advertising that a hole-in-one would win him a car. “I was shaking like a leaf as I addressed the ball. I was afraid to take a swing. I ‘accidentally’ knocked the ball off the tee, so…I was shooting for a hole in two…. I was safe” (p. 104).

This book will walk you through the world of GA in all its specificity, vis-à-vis other 12-Step programs. For example, in Alcoholics Anonymous, the fourth step involves taking a moral inventory, but in GA one needs to do a moral and financial inventory (p. 102). Arnie is not entirely uncritical of the 12-Step model, however, and freely expresses his disdain for the anonymity insisted upon by the fellowship. That statement, in itself, amounts to heresy in the 12-Step world, but Arnie feels strongly that disclosure is essential: Gamblers should stop hiding . . . .

That’s what Arnie thinks, and he says what he thinks.  Read More: http://jgi.camh.net/doi/full/10.4309/jgi.2015.31.2

Additional Comments of Review:
“I would like to agree with Peter’s review of Arnie and Sheila’s book. Arnie’s a straight shooter who calls them like he sees them; no pretensions, just honest sincerity in trying to share their story and help people overcome a gambling problem. Arnie and Sheila’s commitment can’t be challenged, they continue to work with young and old, understand the pain that accompanies a gambling problem, and work tirelessly with individuals experiencing problems.”

Arnie is clearly among the greatest storytellers of all times (young clinicians and academics would be wise to sit next to Arnie or Sheila at a conference to get a historical perspective of the field from people who were there at the beginning). They continue to be in the trenches receiving calls at all hours from anyone in need of help and do their utmost to assist in any way possible. In every discussion with Arnie I always learn something new.

Thanks Arnie and Sheila!

I was going to jump in and say the same thing, Jeff — I loved this review.
I thought that Peter did a really nice job of conveying the beauty of Arnie (and Sheila!) as we’ve all come to know and admire them — and occasionally, as we’ve probably all done in this incomparable forum at one point or another, disagree with them! — in an effort to help reduce the suffering of problem gamblers and their families.

Well done all ’round!

Now my next topic? Well it seems that maybe all the blogging and sharing on my blog here and throughout social media for the very first event of UNITED To Face Addiction rally held in Washington, DC the past weekend of Oct 4th and 5th 2015.
Maybe, just maybe this rally didn’t fall on deaf politicians ears. As after this event there was an interesting post by shared by
The White House recently that I would re-share here for those who have not seen this …Maybe Washington, Congress and the legislation maybe listening to the many voices of people who have lost someone due to any type of addiction. It is time to stop the loss of precious life from addictions!

 The White House

3 facts most people don’t know about prescription drug abuse:

Prescription drug abuse and heroin use have taken a heartbreaking toll on too many Americans and their families. Today, President Obama traveled to West Virginia — the state home to the highest rate of overdose deaths in the nation — to hear directly from people in the community and discuss new actions to fight this epidemic.

Get the facts about prescription drug abuse in this country, and then watch the conversation.

Heading to WV to talk about the epidemic of prescription drug abuse in America and what we can do to help. Get all the facts:

“There Is Life After Drugs” ~ A Message from Host, Dale Garrett:

HELLO AND WELCOME TO GOD ALLOWS U TURNS THERES LIFE AFTER DRUGS, IM YOUR HOST OF THE EYEWITNESS, DALE GARRETT . . .  MY GUEST THIS COMING FRIDAY, AUGUST 28th, HAS TRULY BEEN THROUGH SOME VERY BAD TIMES DURING BOTH HER LIFE AND ADDICTIONS, BUT BY GOD’S GRACE, HE STEPPED IN AND GAVE HER A “U-TURN WITHIN HER LIFE” WHEN SHE WAS AT THE VERY END OF HER ROPE, Literally …..

NOW CAT’S STORY GOES MUCH DEEPER THAN JUST OF ADDICTION & RECOVERY, FOR IT ALSO IS ABOUT A LITTLE GIRL WHO GREW UP BEING BOTH SEXUALLY, VERBALLY & PHYSICALLY ABUSED WHICH EVENTUALLY LED TO SERIOUS MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES & DISORDERS  …. NOW CAT WILL BE THE VERY FIRST TO TELL YOU THAT BY NO MEANS WILL SHE USE HER PAST AS EXCUSES FOR HER ADDICTIONS ANY LONGER, NO!

FOR SHE HAS NOW BEEN SET FREE FROM THE BONDAGE AND NO LONGER IS A VICTIM …. BUT DURING HER TIME GROWING UP, NOR DID SHE KNOW SUCH PLACES AS THERAPY OR TREATMENT CENTERS COULD HELP HER,  SO SHE FOUND HER ESCAPE WITHIN ALCOHOL AND GAMBLING …..AFTER MANY YEARS OF THIS MADDENING LIFESTYLE, SHE WAS EVENTUALLY CAUGHT AND ARRESTED FOR STEALING, BUT THIS DIDN’T STOP HER FROM HER BAD HABITS, BUT RATHER JUST FUELED THE FIRE EVEN MORE TO RECOVER . . . .

CAT WILL TELL YOU THAT SHE’S A WALKING , BREATHING, MIRACLE OF GOD, FOR WHEN HER ADDICTION TO GAMBLING AND ALCOHOL ABUSE BECAME TO MUCH FOR HER AND ENDED UP DRIVING HER INTO SUCH A DARK PLACE WITHIN HER LIFE THAT ALL SHE WANTED TO COMMIT SUICIDE AND END IT ALL… TWICE …BUT THEN SHE WOKE UP IN AN ADDICTION/MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS CENTER, AND REALIZED THAT GOD HAD STEPPED IN AND SAVED HER FROM CERTAIN DEATH!  SO CAT GOT DOWN ON HER KNEES AND PRAYED TO GOD TO PLEASE TAKE ALL OF HER URGES AND TRIGGERS OF GAMBLING AWAY FROM HER, AND IF HE WOULD ONLY DO THAT THEN SHE PROMISED GOD THAT SHE WOULD DO THE REST. NOW AS WE ALL KNOW, GOD DOESN’T WORK ON OUR TIME TABLE. . .
SO I INVITE YOU ALL TO LISTEN IN AND HEAR FOR YOURSELF HOW GOD STILL PERFORMS MIRACLES IN ONES LIFE!

Some Of My Story:

WHO SAYS GOD DOESN’T PERFORM MIRACLES IN RECOVERY?

I AM A WALKING, BREATHING, MIRACLE OF GOD.
For mine is a story of Addiction & Recovery. About being Sexually Abused as a Little Girl, going years UN-diagnosed with Mental Health Disorders, and being Verbally & Physically Abused by my parents when I was disciplined. As time went by, I learned to numb the pain through the use of Gambling and at times abuse of Alcohol as well.  And once my Addiction to Gambling & Alcohol Abuse took its toll & drove me into such a dark place within myself that I wanted to commit Suicide, TWICE!

Now these are by NO means excuses for my Addictions & I’m no longer a Victim either.. I don’t blame my childhood trauma, Abuse on anyone or anything for the Choices and path’s I chose to take in life, But I made God a Promise that I would work my Recovery if only He would take away the Urges & Triggers!

Now we all know that GOD ANSWERS PRAYERS, but He does it in His time, Not ours, So NEVER GIVE UP on your RECOVERY, For He walk’s with you each & every day, I Invite you to Join Me, Catherine Townsend-Lyon, as I’m a guest host on the EYEWITNESS With Dale Garrett, as I share my story of . “WHO SAY’S GOD DOSENT PERFORM MIRACLES IN RECOVERY?” Just Click on the Link below and it will take you to the show, God Bless!!…

Addicted To Dimes, Confessions of a Liar and a Cheat – Part 3

The Woman in the Mirror:

“I used gambling to get reactions from people who didn’t communicate feelings or get reactions from people who had hurt me.”

I know I’ve always had a compulsive type of personality and high anxiety most of my life. I had to always be moving or engaged in something. While in treatment, and during my first time in the crisis center, I found out I suffer from severe depression, severe anxiety and PTSD from my childhood trauma. I started on medications for them, in November 2002. I also remember, while in the crisis center after being there only a few days, I was getting ready to take a shower and I looked at myself in the mirror. I didn’t recognize the woman looking back at me. I’d always been a fun, bubbly, caring person, but this woman looking back at me, I didn’t know or recognize. I also was suffering with mood swings sleep problems and felt as though the medications I was taking weren’t helping these symptoms. I sure wished they could come up with a cure or a pill for gambling addiction.

Needing My Parents Love I Never Got

I found that there were other people going through some of the same things with their addiction as I was. The amount of money lost to our gambling may have been different, but I didn’t feel as though I was alone in this insane disease. There is a lot more to the addiction than just placing a bet or being in action. I learned to use my addiction as a way to cope with feelings and disappointments that I had pushed deep down rather than dealing with them. I would gamble to escape reality, which was very immature in retrospect. I was selfish and only cared about myself. Just as the addiction makes you selfish, so does recovery. Recovery requires hard work and the desire to want to stop gambling .  .  .  .

So come on over and read the whole series on Melissa’s new website today! It is only the second time I have shared some sections of my current book, as book 2 will be out late this year.  Now with September being Recovery Awareness Month, I will be doing some special blog posts and in October as well as Many gather in Washington, D.C. for “10-4-2015 Unite to Face Addiction” & Advocacy Day on  Monday, October 5, 2015, .. .. ..

Citizen advocates will meet with policymakers on Capitol Hill to address solutions to the addiction crisis. On Advocacy Day, constituents will have conversations with their elected officials about the need for addiction solutions and the growing constituency of consequence that is demanding them.

Will you join us for Advocacy Day?

Advocacy Day has two overarching goals:

  1. Achieve a health response to addiction
  2. Improve public safety and protect civil liberties to enhance health outcomes of those in or seeking recovery from addiction involved with the criminal justice system

Additional information about Advocacy Day can be found here.

Thank you for joining us.

The UNITE to Face Addiction team!
